Cellulite Definition, Causes and Prevention

Cellulite is by far, one of the most frustrating things women will ever have. They don’t want them – no one would- but they still get them. If you’re looking for a way on how to get rid of cellulite, then the first thing you should do is to identify what you are handling with. Get to know what cellulite really is, what really causes it, how to get rid of it and how to prevent it.

What is Cellulite?

Cellulite comes in many names such as status protrusus cutis, gynoid lipodystrophy, cottage cheese skin, adiposis edematosa, dermopanniculosis deformans, or orange peel syndrome. Whatever its name, all you have to know is that cellulite is not a medical condition or problem. It is simply the formation of fat beneath your skin. This fat will not cause any harm to the body. So it is not necessary to remove them. However, the way it looks will probably make you think twice. Cellulite will make your lower body parts such as the thighs, legs and buttocks look loose, flabby, dimpled and bumpy. In short, it will not look good. This is the reason why most people would want to remove them.

What causes Cellulite?

There are no proven facts as to what really causes cellulite but there are a number of theories regarding it. Here are some of them:

1) Unhealthy Diet

If you are a person who consumes more fat, carbohydrates, salt and fiber than you burn, then you have a higher risk of getting cellulite.

2) Unhealthy Lifestyle

Most people who have cellulite do not engage in a healthy lifestyle. Most of the victims of cellulite are those who do not exercise regularly, smokers, and those who sit more often than they stand.

3) Hormones

Hormones are the main reason why cellulite is more common in women than in men. It is believed that the production of insulin, estrogen, prolactin, thyroid hormones and noradrenalin aid in cellulite production.

4) Clothing

If you are a woman who wear underwear that are tight on the lower buttock area, then you are more prone to getting cellulite than those who don’t wear those kinds of underwear.

5) Genetics

It is said that if you have a relative who also has cellulite then expect that you will have them too. They say it is in the genes.

 How to Prevent Cellulite?

There are numerous ways on how to remove cellulite, most of which come in creams and oral medications. However, there are some products like these that do not have scientific or medical proof to back up their claims. You do not have to go through all this stress. According to the saying “prevention is better than cure”, always prevent. I tell you it is better than cure.

By doing anything contrary to the causes of cellulite, like adapting to a healthier lifestyle and consuming a better diet, you will surely prevent cellulite from forming. Also, wearing thongs and other undergarments that do not have tight elastic will help.
